As a construction electrician you may find yourself with knee problems after years of doing this work. A lot of these problems can be solved with a good set of gel knee-pads. Lets see how the Husky Soft Cap Gel Knee Pads pan out.
Af first glance these look like they’re high quality, and extremely padded. They feel like they’ll be really comfortable to wear and will protect your knees when getting up and down from installing plugs or wiring in cabinets. For those of you who have been installing electrical materials for years, you already know that between going up and down ladders and getting down to install plugs can be taxing on your knees. Wearing knee-pads may seem like an “old-guy” thing to do, but those dudes do it because it works.
I’ve gotten to try several pairs of knee-pads over the years, and I do like Husky’s options more than most. I’m not installing tile so I don’t need something that is extremely rugged. Most of the time, as an electrician, I’m only on my knees for short bursts of time at each location. Therefore I don’t need something heavy duty, just something that has a semi-hard surface with a gel backing.
The one thing that I do not like about this specific model is hat the velcro band location on the axis of the pad is in an odd spot. When you bend over, the pads don’t hug your knees as well as some of Husky’s other models. The tops of the pads tend to stick up really far which makes getting up and down on them feel a little “loose.” This causes them to snag on things, and make you feel like you need to constantly adjust them. I don’t think it’s a flaw in the design, I just prefer a pad that adheres to my knee a little better. I think that having 2 straps (one at the top, and one at the bottom) may be a better consideration.
The velcro is extremely grippy, so there’s no issues with them coming undone as some brands will do. And there’s a little red nylon flap that hangs off of the edge of the velcro strap, which makes tearing the velcro apart a lot easier. This is how most kneepads come, so this isn’t any rocket science or brilliance that hasn’t already been thought of in other brands/models.
