I’ve been sent a lot of various job-site lights by many companies, but most of them are large, cumbersome, and require large lithium ion batteries. On the other hand, I also have a bunch of random flashlights that I keep around me that can be put in a pocket or backpack for times when I’m not “on a job.” This little 550-Lumen flood light by Milwaukee packs the best of both worlds.
At first when I opened the package I thought it was an awkwardly shaped headlamp or something. I sometimes don’t read things all the way through at first, and I missed that this is a pivoting flood light. Seems kind of small for a true “flood light” though doesn’t it?
Oh well, with Milwaukee I’ve learned by now not to judge until AFTER using their tools. They never disappoint, so let's crack into this thing and see how well it works, and for what environments.
I do love that this thing is rechargeable. Being an electrician I have enough testers, headlamps, and flashlights that require me to carry copious amounts of AA, AAA, and 9v batteries in my truck. This actually irritates the shit out of me. It’s 2019 - why are we still using throw-away batteries? I use the same AA batteries for modern tools that I used in my OG gameboy in 1992. It appears not all technology advances exponentially. I digress.
The fact that this is rechargeable is really one of my favorite parts of it. I have enough mini-usb chargers laying around my house, truck, and van (and this light comes with its own) that I can easily plug it in and charge it quickly while I’m on the go.
The amount of light that this little light puts out is pretty outstanding, and the rechargeable 4-Wh battery lasts a long time. I like that the handle is magnetic, so you can stick this to a lot of things surfaces that you’re around as an electrician. One other cool feature is that the handle collapses similar to a carabiner, so you can clip this to things to hang it if you’re in a wood structure or somewhere the magnets won’t benefit you.
